El marco que está cambiando las reglas
Ningún país ha aprobado una ley que prohíba el hormigón o imponga la madera por decreto. Lo que está ocurriendo es más sutil y, a la larga, más determinante: se está pasando de regular cómo se construye a regular cuánta huella de carbono deja lo construido, medida en todo su ciclo de vida. En España, el artículo 8.2 de la Ley 7/2021 de Cambio Climático y Transición Energética exige que los materiales de construcción y rehabilitación tengan la menor huella de carbono posible, y habilita a la contratación pública a exigir madera de bosques gestionados de forma sostenible. En Francia, la RE2020, en vigor desde 2022, fija techos de huella de carbono por ciclo de vida que se endurecen en 2025, 2028 y 2031, sin imponer un material concreto pero favoreciendo de facto a la madera. La industria del cemento no se queda quieta. Su objetivo declarado es reducir las emisiones por tonelada de cemento entre un 44% y un 45% para 2030 respecto a niveles actuales. Esto no es una reducción del volumen de hormigón que se va a construir, es una carrera de la propia industria por seguir siendo competitiva dentro de las nuevas reglas de huella de carbono. Fundamento técnico ¿Por qué la madera encaja mejor en ese marco? La ventaja de la madera no es solo que su fabricación consuma menos energía que el cemento o el acero. Es que, mientras el árbol crece, captura CO2 de la atmósfera y lo fija en su estructura celular. Ese carbono permanece almacenado durante toda la vida útil del edificio, en lugar de liberarse como ocurre en la calcinación de la caliza. Es la diferencia entre un material que emite menos y uno que retiene carbono. ¿Buscas una forma más rápida, eficiente y sostenible de construir?
